Today was a monumental day for vision. Had my eyes checked and it's amazing what new lenses can do for a person. If you wear glasses, you are used to them being on your face. You don't often close one eye and then the other to see how things look. Well, in the examination chair, take off my glasses, and I think I can still see fairly well. I read a line. Then the doctor blocks my left eye - still not bad - I can read (guess) at a line. Called the last letter - later found out every last character was actually a number. Then he blocks my right eye and EVERYTHING including the top line (the one with the BIG letters) was blurry. Couldn't even read the first letter on the top line! What a shock! Took a deep breath and we progressed through the exam. Second shock - how much the price of glasses has gone up in 2 years. Beware in the meantime - I still have my old glasses. New ones will be here in about 10 days - then I will be able to read those road signs and recognize folks from a little ways away. Ah, progress...
